The Adventure of a Boy in a Golden Conch

Discover the story behind some of the most common Thai expressions in this retelling of the classic folktale Sang Thong (สังข์ทอง)! A prince born inside a conch shell is cast out of the palace, raised by a giantess, and hides his golden body beneath the disguise of a wild forest man until Princess Rotchana chooses him as her husband. Along the way, you’ll learn about King Rama II, Thai beliefs about bad luck, and family words like son-in-law and father-in-law, and finally understand phrases Thai people still use today.

Thai Vocabulary:
ร่างทอง (râang thong) – Golden form / Looking your best
ชุบตัว (chúp tua) – To transform yourself / Glow up
ถอดรูป (thàawt rûup) – To reveal your true self
