Summer Schedule for Children

Discover how Thai families look after their children during the long school holidays! This lesson explains how the Thai school year works, then explores the choices parents make, from hiring a nanny or sending kids to English camp, to leaving them with grandparents or sending boys to be ordained as novice monks. You’ll also learn the difference between a daily-wage worker and a salaried employee, and hear why summer can be a dangerous time when adults lose sight of children near water. Finish by practising your answers to two open questions in Thai.

Thai Vocabulary:
ปิดเทอมใหญ่ (bpìt təəm yài) – Long school break / Summer holidays
ผู้ปกครอง (pûu bpòk-krɔɔng) – Guardian / Parent
คลาดสายตา (klâat sǎai-dtaa) – To lose sight of (someone)
ตั้งหน้าตั้งตา (dtâng nâa dtâng dtaa) – To focus intently on something
บวชเณร (bùat neen) – To be ordained as a novice monk

Keep listening, keep practising, and enjoy your Thai journey!
