Size

How do you talk about size in Thai? This lesson introduces the two common words for size, the native Thai ขนาด and the English loanword ไซส์, and shows how they're used with everyday things: drinking glasses, shirts, trousers, skirts, shoes, books and cars. You'll hear clothing sizes from XS to XXL, waist sizes in inches, and why Thai people ask for shoes by เบอร์ (from the English word "number"). There's also a handy tip for shopping in Thailand: a Western size M is usually bigger than a Thai size M!

Thai Vocabulary:
ขนาด (khà-nàat) – Size
ไซส์ (sai) – Size (loanword)
เบอร์ (bəə) – Number / Shoe size
เล็ก / กลาง / ใหญ่ (lék / glaang / yài) – Small / Medium / Large
หนา / บาง (nǎa / baang) – Thick / Thin
ที่นั่ง (thîi-nâng) – Seat

Knowing how to ask about size makes shopping in Thailand much easier. Keep listening, keep learning, and enjoy your Thai journey!
