Shopping Malls in Thailand

Why are shopping malls in Thailand so big, and why do so many Thai people spend their free time there? In this lesson, you’ll hear what you can find inside a Thai mall, including cinemas, food courts, bookshops, electronics stores, cafés and game zones. You’ll also hear the reasons behind Thailand’s mall culture: the hot weather, saving electricity at home, cheap food, meeting friends and family over a meal, convenient parking, and small city apartments. Famous Bangkok malls such as Siam Paragon, CentralWorld, Terminal 21 and ICONSIAM also come up.

Thai Vocabulary:
ห้างสรรพสินค้า (hâang sàp-pá-sǐn-káa) – Department store / shopping mall
ศูนย์อาหาร (sǔun aa-hǎan) – Food court
ลานจอดรถ (laan jɔ̀ɔt rót) – Car park
ประหยัดไฟ (prà-yàt fai) – To save electricity

Listen along and think about whether malls play the same role where you live!
