School Life

What was it like to grow up attending a Thai government school? This lesson walks you through the Thai education system, from kindergarten all the way to university. It also covers daily school life: morning flag ceremonies and the national anthem, lining up by height, prayers and meditation, school uniforms, and ironing clothes for the whole week. You’ll also hear about strict discipline, bullying, sports day, and school camps. The lesson ends with a reflection on how Thai schooling teaches obedience, and what that can mean for creativity later in life.

Thai Vocabulary:
โรงเรียนรัฐบาล (roong-rian rát-tà-baan) – Government school
เคารพธงชาติ (kao-róp tong-châat) – To pay respect to the national flag
กติกา (gà-dtì-gaa) – Rules
เอาตัวรอด (ao dtua rôot) – To survive / to get by

Hearing about real experiences helps you understand Thai culture as well as the language. Keep listening, keep learning, and enjoy your Thai journey!
