How to Answer a Question Ending in “Mai”

Stop answering ใช่ to every Thai question! In this lesson, you’ll learn how to reply naturally to yes/no questions that end in ไหม. Through lots of everyday examples (Are you hungry? Can I get a discount? Can you drive? Do you like cats?), you’ll hear the positive and negative answers side by side. You’ll see that a Thai reply usually repeats the key word from the question instead of using a simple “yes” or “no”. A short quiz at the end lets you test whether you can pick the right answer.

Thai Vocabulary:
ไหม (mǎi) – Question particle for yes/no questions
ได้ (dâi) – Can / Able to
เป็น (bpen) – Know how to (a skill)
ไม่ (mâi) – Not

The more you listen, the more naturally you’ll know which word to use in your answer. Keep listening, keep practicing, and enjoy your Thai journey!
