Goals

Set your sights on the Thai word เป้าหมาย (pâo mǎai), meaning “goal” or “target”, in this intermediate lesson. It starts with shooting targets, archery and swords from the past, then moves on to business profits and personal goals like losing or gaining weight. Along the way, you’ll hear how Thai speakers talk about setting goals, aiming for them, hitting them, missing them and going beyond them.

Key Thai Phrases:
ตั้งเป้า / วางเป้า (tâng pâo / waang pâo) – To set a goal
เล็ง (leng) – To aim (also to have your eye on someone)
ทำตามเป้า (tham taam pâo) – To work towards a goal
ตรงเป้า (trong pâo) – On target
พลาดเป้า (plâat pâo) – To miss the target
เลยเป้า (ləəi pâo) – To exceed the target
ต่ำกว่าเป้า (tàm gwàa pâo) – Below target
