Fast & Slow

In this Easy Thai lesson, you’ll learn how to talk about speed in Thai using เร็ว, ไว and ช้า. Through everyday examples (children growing up, a horse running, someone eating, driving, putting on makeup and walking), you’ll hear how to describe actions as fast, very fast, slow and very slow. The lesson then shows how to turn these words into requests by doubling them and adding ได้ไหม, so you can ask someone to speak more slowly, walk faster, or even walk in slow motion for a photo.

Thai Vocabulary:
เร็ว (reo) – Fast / Quick
ไว (wai) – Fast / Quick
ช้า (cháa) – Slow
เร็วมาก (reo mâak) – Very fast
ได้ไหม (dâai mái) – Can you…? / Could you…?
พูดช้าๆ ได้ไหม (pûut cháa-cháa dâai mái) – Can you speak slowly?

Hearing new words repeated in many different situations helps them stick. Keep listening and keep practising!
