Bargain
Head to the market and learn how to shop like a local in Thai! In this lesson, you’ll practise asking how much clothes, shoes, and fruit cost, using the right classifier for each item. You’ll learn how to ask what something is, whether it’s near or far, and then try your hand at bargaining, from politely asking for a discount to offering your own price and making bulk deals. Finally, you’ll learn a polite way to walk away when the price isn’t right.
Thai Vocabulary:
ลดราคาได้มั้ยคะ (lót raa-khaa dâai mái khá) – Can you give me a discount?
ขายยังไงคะ (khǎai yang-ngai khá) – How much is it? / How do you sell this?
อันนี้อะไรคะ (an níi a-rai khá) – What is this?
ขอเดินดูก่อนค่ะ (khɔ̌ɔ dəən duu gɔ̀ɔn khâ) – I’ll just look around first
Practise these phrases on your next trip to a Thai market, and you’ll be bargaining with confidence in no time!
