Act Like a Thai

What makes Thai people so kind, relaxed and easy-going? Drawing on research from Chulalongkorn University, this lesson explores seven key traits of Thai character, from fairness and gratitude to honesty, generosity and humility. You’ll then discover practical ways to live more like a Thai person: being mindful in public, showing respect to elders, adapting to any situation, forgiving easily, and being patient, even with an off-key karaoke singer! Along the way, you’ll hear real stories about Thai beliefs, ghosts, New Year traditions, free food halls and helping during floods.

Thai Vocabulary:
กตัญญู (gà-tan-yuu) – Gratitude towards those who have helped you
เสียสละ (sǐa sà-là) – To sacrifice
มีน้ำใจ (mii nám-jai) – To be kind and generous
ถ่อมตัว (tɔ̂m tua) – To be humble
ปลูกฝัง (bplùuk fǎng) – To instill (values or habits)

Listen to natural, spontaneous Thai and gain a deeper understanding of the culture behind the language.
